Having an open space inside your home is wonderful. You don’t feel cramped and trapped by the walls in the home dividing each room but you do need a way that you can divide one room from another. You can create a special look in your dining room by placing a small area rug in front of the china cabinet or buffet. You can place one large area rug underneath the table. This will visibly separate the dining room from any other room in the house. You want to use bright colors in the dining room like yellows or greens.

If you want to separate your kitchen from the rest of the house, you need special area rugs that will fit into your kitchen decor. There are different designs that you can get in your rug. For example, a teapot on the rug or you can go with a solid color like a blue area rug. Choose a small rug that will be placed in front of the sink. This rug should be different from any other rug in the kitchen. If your stove and counter is long enough you may want to consider a rectangle runner type rug that you can use there with a short pile. You don’t want to use a plush rug there because of the potential for grease to splatter onto the rug. Try using cotton area rugs here because cotton can be tossed into the washer whenever it gets dirty. The more you wash them, the softer they get.

You also want to put a rug in front of the entrance door. You may want to put an indoor/outdoor rug so you won’t have to take such special care of it. Because the rug will catch all the dirt and grime from the outdoors, you want to make sure that you can clean them up with ease and without costing you a large bill from the dry cleaners or a replacement rug.
